Cuiabá is the capital city of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. Situated on the Rio Cuiabá, the city is an important starting point for trips into the amazing Pantanal.The city itself has some rewarding sights. Praça da República is the center of the city and where you’ll find the cathedral. Nearby, we find the pleasant Praça Ipiranga, a major commercial area. Close-by we find the superb church of Bom Despacho, inspired by Notre Dame Cathedral. The Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário is also worth visiting. If museums are your thing, you won’t be disappointed. There are a vast array of good museum throughout the city such as the Ramis Bucair Museum, the Museu do Artesanato, the Museum of Folk Art and Culture, the Palacio de Instrucao, a history museum, and the Natural History Museum. The main reason visitors come to Cuiabá, though, is to visit the Pantanal. The Pantanal is one of the world's largest tropical wetland areas and a unique ecosystem of grassland, different kinds of freshwater pools, salinas, forest and fauna. The Pantanal is Cuiabá’s secret gem.
